A little warm up drawing.
I did a new shirt for The Menzingers recently. They used this personal piece from my portfolio.

They wanted to see some samples with different lettering. I figured that hand lettering was more punk rock than just using a font so I busted out my pen nibs and came up with these.

I then took that lettering and did up a few samples.

Here is the one they picked.

“Swim away from me, do ye?” murmured Ahab, gazing over into the water. There seemed but little in the words, but the tone conveyed more of deep helpless sadness than the insane old man had ever before evinced. But turning to the steersman, who thus far had been holding the ship in the wind to diminish her headway, he cried out in his old lion voice,- “Up helm! Keep her off round the world!”
Round the world! There is much in that sound to inspire proud feelings; but whereto does all that circumnavigation conduct? Only through numberless perils to the very point whence we started, where those that we left behind secure, were all the time before us.
Were this world an endless plain, and by sailing eastward we could for ever reach new distances, and discover sights more sweet and strange than any Cyclades or Islands of King Solomon, then there were promise in the voyage. But in pursuit of those far mysteries we dream of, or in tormented chase of the demon phantom that, some time or other, swims before all human hearts; while chasing such over this round globe, they either lead us on in barren mazes or midway leave us whelmed.

As I sit here diligently trying to meet my deadline for this children’s book, I somehow thought it was a good idea to take a break and do a self portrait. I guess I’m not doing so well in my fight against procrastination.

I just added several new pieces to the Children’s section in my portfolio. Check ‘em out!
Here is a drawing I did for a poster I am working on. I was going for some fake authenticity with the block printed look.

I am still busy working on this Guido De Bres book but I managed to do this quick ink drawing in the meantime.

I just got the go-ahead to start inking the drawings for the children’s book I am working on. Yay!
